Another family house goes up in flames in Blantyre
Fierce fire has razed a family house belonging to a senior officer at Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) at Manja Township in Blantyre destroying property worth undisclosed amount of kwachas.
The house belongs to Tamanda Mayinjini and, according to eye witnesses, the fire started around 09:15hours from the main bedroom.
The incident comes less than two months after another fire razed a house within the same area belonging to another senior officer working for the Standard Bank
“We were passing through the gate when a girl came out from the house crying that the house was on fire. We rushed inside and indeed found that there was a heavy fire emanating from the main bedroom,” a resident of the area, Tchumula Kachere, told Nyasa Times.
Tchumula and another passerby, Russell Khoza, swiftly responded by calling ESCOM, fire brigade and police as they started salvaging some of the property.
“We managed to rescue most of the property on living room and the other two rooms but we could not get into the main bedroom because the inferno was just uncompromising,” added Khoza.
However, Khoza blamed the city fire brigade for coming almost an hour after the fire had started.
It was not clear what caused the fire but it is suspected that it might have started from electricity fault.
Devastated Mr and Mrs Mayinjini could not speak to Nyasa Times to estimate how much had been lost in the blaze.
Nyasa Times’ journalist Lucky Mkandawire rushed to the scene and captured the incident through these pictures.
