TNM, Escom excites customers with ‘Waliwalindi Mpamba’ promo

Telekom Networks Malawi Limited (TNM) and Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) have launched Waliwali ndi Mpamba promotion which is expected to increase usage of the Mpamba Mobile Money Service for electricity bill payments and electricity units purchase.

The promotion, which was launched on Tuesday in Ndirande Township has been designed for customers using the mobile money service in accessing Escom services through mobile phones.

Waliwali ndi Mpamba promotion is expected to run for 15 weeks with draws to be conducted on every Wednesday.

To qualify, customers have to use a minimum of K1,000 in paying bills or buying electricity units through Mpamba.

Escom Marketing and Business Development Officer, Chifundo Kameko said in an interview that through the promotion, 15 customers stand a chance of having their bills paid for or getting prepaid vouchers through Mpamba mobile money service, weekly.

According to the design of the promotion, every Wednesday for 15 weeks 15 customers who pay bills or buy electricity vouchers through Mpamba will be selected through a draw.

The selected customers will be getting K15,000 worth of electricity vouchers each or having their bills not above K15,000 paid for through Mpamba Mobile Money Service, which is a TNM product.

They will also be getting two free energy saver bulbs from Escom.

Kameko said Mpamba offers simplified better payments solutions to Escom customers and urged more people to embrace the initiave. “Mpamba is best solution to some of service delivery challenges. Customers don’t need to travel long distance or stand in long queues to access our services,” added Kameko.

TNM Business and Development Manager, Earnest Kalomba said was expecting to see an increase in bill payments following the launch of the promotion.

Kalomba said they decided to take the promotion to townships to ensure more were able to embrace Mpamba mobile money service and the products offered under it.

“Usage of mobile phone for other transactions aside making calls is a new thing in Malawi. We therefore focusing on change people’s mind sets through the promotion,” said Kalomba.

He therefore assured customers of speedy and improved transactions once they subscribe to Mpamba, which also add value to the development of the country’s economy.

“TNM has a network of agents across the country to ensure that people are able to acess Mpamba easily everywhere. And we have invested much in best technology to ensure no interrupted network service”.

Mpamba offers priceless financial transactions that are convenient, affordable and reliable to banked and unbanked, urban and rural population.

And Escom believes that through Mpamba it will meet government policy which requires customers not to travel a distance of over 75 kilometers to access our service.
