Another Malawian married man dies in hands of secret lover

There was drama at Kabula Adventist Private Hospital  on Tuesday (July 16, 2013) when a 36 year -old married man, Nickson Kunkeyani from Khwethemure village, Traditional Authority Changata in Malawi’s southern district Thyolo died suddenly while in the hands of his girlfriend, Falesi Hanania.

The commotion erupted when Kunkeyani’s wife, Grace discovered that her husband had died  at the hospital whilst in Hanania’s hands.

The situation, confirmed by both the hospital and Blantyre police, was diffused after the law-enforcers intervened by confronting the two parties. They  requested for body examination and post-mortem.

According to some hospital officials and the police, the situation got tense when Kunkeyani’s wife deliberately refused to accept the sudden death of her husband and demanded the girlfriend to bring him back to life while claiming he was still alive.death1

It had to take the hospital administration following noisy disturbances to call the police to intervene and sort out the verbal war.

Nickson Kunkeyani 36 and a Chilomoni resident, was Laboratory Attendant at Malawi Blood Transfusion Services (MBTS).

According to his wife Grace, he fell sick on 14th July but had refused to seek medical attention despite his wife’s insistence.

“On July 14, 2013; he told me was not feeling well and the following morning he wanted to go to work regardless of being ill. I advised him that she can go to his office and inform the management about his illness but he insisted of going to work although he was not feeling ok. He set off to work at around 12:00 hours after taking bath and breakfast,” Grace told the police.

Grace said she phoned him twice and he said was at office and informed her would be home late since he had much work to do, but to her surprise, she heard a baby crying out at the background of their conversation.

“After midnight; I was tipped  to go to Adventist Private Hospital where he was said to be admitted.

“When we reached there, I found him lying on bed and doctors told us he is dead. I also noticed the presence of a certain lady who brought him to the hospital. And that is when I discovered she was his girlfriend,” Grace told the police.

Falesi Hanania, aged 37 single and businesswoman, is a resident of Mbayani Township and she disclosed to the law-enforcers that she started dating Kunkeyani in the year 2012.

She said the relationship had once ended when he refused to take her to his house.

Hanania said: “He visited me twice this year for reconciliation but I refused to take him back. On July 15, 2013 at around 14:00hours; he came again for a chat but he was complaining of general body pains, which was thought to be malaria fever. I even blamed him for coming to my house in such condition.

“Then he started shivering and trembling repeatedly while we were chatting.  That is when I decided to take him to hospital, and that was at around 23:00hours but we stayed for hours at the bus stage without finding any lift to taken us to any nearest hospital. He said I should take him to any nearest hospital which is under MASM subscription”.

She added that after being stranded for hours in search for transport; his illness got critical as well before deciding to carry him on the back and referred him to Blantyre – Kabula Private Hospital but doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival at around 01:30hours of July 16, 2013.

Meanwhile, post-mortem done by Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH) reveals that Nickson Kunkeyani had died a natural death.
