President Peter Mutharika has donated a minibus to Dedza Secondary School.
Through his special assistant Ben Phiri, Mutharika who is an alumni at the school, also promised to rehabilitate the school and pay for the maintainance of the the road up to the Boma.
According to Phiri, the whole project will cost the President K20 million.
“This gesture followed a surprise visit the president had to this school, he was shocked with the status of the buildings and the state of the road.
“Although the school has produced prominent people in the society, APM thought it wise to lead in assisting the school so that the rest should follow,” he said.
Phiri said the six kilometer road maintenance and school rehabilitation will start from next week.
“The President is using his own money in all this and it is his wish that he extent the same to other secondary schools.” he said.
Late President Bingu wa Mutharika also was alumni at the same school.
Phiri advised the students to take care of the school and the buses for future use.
“If the crop of APM had vandalised the school I don’t believe some of you could have been here today. Should you destroy the school today, your children or grandsons will have nowhere to learn,” said Phiri.
Dedza Secondary School Deputy Head Edness Banda said the bus will help solve transportation problems.
“We have had problems to help sick students to hospital and teachers to attend meetings at the ministry and district offices and now this is the thing of the past,” she said.Follow and Subscribe Nyasa TV :
