Apostle Hulda’s K20million blessing! Lilongwe student’s university dreams funded in full

A student from Lilongwe has had his life turned around after being handed a staggering K20 million scholarship by the Apostle Hulda Foundation to fund his entire five-year university education.

Nephtali Dickson, from Area 23, will now study Biological Sciences at the University of Malawi (Unima) with every conceivable expense covered — tuition, accommodation, upkeep, transport and other education-related costs — thanks to the life-changing gift.

The scholarship was awarded by Apostle Hulda Kamanga, who revealed she first learned of Dickson’s plight through traditional leaders in the area, who flagged both his impressive academic record and the crippling financial difficulties threatening to derail his studies.

Kamanga said Dickson’s case forms part of a much wider mission by her foundation, which is already supporting 15 other students, four of whom are currently enrolled in higher education institutions.

“Just like Nephtali, we want to support more students and it is my prayer that we can support about 20 students in college and give them an opportunity to complete their studies without financial challenges,” Kamanga said.

An overwhelmed Dickson thanked the foundation for its generosity and pledged to repay the faith shown in him by throwing himself into his studies.

The scholarship represents one of the largest individual educational gifts of its kind reported in Malawi in recent times, and comes amid growing recognition of the crucial role played by private and faith-based donors in plugging funding gaps for talented but financially disadvantaged students across the country.
