Apostolic Church Pastor arrested for brutal murder of daughter in Balaka

Malawi Police in Balaka have arrested a 25 year old Apostolic Church Pastor identified as Sageme Petro for allegedly murdering his own biological daughter.

Newly transfered Balaka Police Publicist Constable Gerald Sumaili who has replaced Sub-Inspector Joseph Sauka confirmed the arrest to Nyasa Times.

According to Sumaili, the suspect entered his house during the morning of 21st June 2016 while his wife who happens to be the biological mother of the daughter was busy cleaning the surrounding area and he went on to slain the neck of the baby aged one year eight months while she was in
her sleep.

He later called his wife to see the dead child.

“The mother was shocked and she rushed to police to report the matter. Police rushed to the scene of the incident at Mitchaya Village and arrested the fugitive,” said Constable Sumaili.

Sumaili said postmorterm conducted at Balaka District Hospital revealed that the deceased died due to severe bleeding.

Petro, who is believed to have once been diagonised with mental illness and was treated of the same,  will appear before court soon to answer a charge of murder which is contrary to Section 209 of the penal Code.

He hails from Chatala Village in the Area of Traditional Authority Nkaya in the same district of Balaka.
