Atupele storms North Malawi: Campaigns for Mutharika re-election

Atupele Muluzi the running mate to President Peter Mutharika in the forthcoming fresh presidential election has asked people in the north to vote for the DPP-UDF alliance, saying its candidate who is also incumbent State President, Mutharika is a cool and a democratic leader.

Muluzi was speaking Saturday evening in Mzuzu when he addressed people at Katoto Round About who gathered to welcome him in the region where he is expected to conduct campaign rallies ahead of the elections.

He said Mutharika is a visionary leader who has under his government implemented numerous development projects in the country, hence the need to give him another term so that the country should continue developing.

‘’It is a fact that the incumbent leadership has developed the country beyond recognition; as a result, his reelection is not questionable.

“I, therefore, urge you people to vote for Prof. Peter Mutharikasince he has demonstrated good leadership,’’ said Muluzi.

He said unity is paramount, therefore politics should not divide Malawians and called on all political parties to desist from perpetrating acts of violence.

He said Malawians need to be reminded that there have been opposition parties in the current democratic system of government and that there has been cordial coexistent between the ruling parties and the opposition.

“What is happening now is strange, we need, as ruling party and opposition, to discuss whenever there are issues, but not destroy our own country as the case has been for the past 12 monthswhen there have been violent protests,” said Muluzi.

He said when reelected, Mutharika under his leadership will continue with initiatives geared at reducing unemployment amongst the youth.

  7. Praising Muthalika in the north is an insult. Which road did you use? M1 to the north is like a road to a graveyard. Praising Muthalika is the north who was behind the quota system of education with an aim of killing the northern region talent is another insult. It’s not different from putting northerners in Adolf Hitler’s concentration camps where six million Jews were gassed to death. We will not forgive you and APM for that. Did you mention that dpp gunned down 21 people on 20 July 2011? Did you apologize for the heinous crime. Forget about getting votes in the north.

    1. You could also mention that MCP killed and imprisoned all the high profile politicians in the North. Killed: Yatuta Chisiza, Dunduzu Chisiza, Orton Chirwa and many more. Imprisoned: Vera Chirwa, Aleke Banda and many more

      2. Invoking the names of these people will not change anything. The son of Orton Chilwa is a friend of Chakwera and was introduced at a rally in Lilongwe. Dunduzu Chisiza Jr joined MCP and served as a cabinet minister in 1993.

      3. Malawi needs to move on. We can not dwell on mistakes that happed some 60yrs ago forgetting what has just happened under dpp. Dpp is killing people, dpp is stealling our money. Remember the K145000000 the president took from police, nononono Malawians have not forgotten.

      4. Which country has not imprisoned those who are a threat to security? Americans have killed thousands including drug traffickers like Pablo Escabar, Quasem Soleiman of Iraq etc. They even went to capture General Noriega of Panama. I am not saying to kill is the best option but those who are deemed as rebels are killed by the state. Jonas Savimbi was killed in 2002. If Yatuta took up arms against the government, it means he was ready to die in combat. You Duda try to do it against the Muthalika regime and see it the security forces will not kill you. We have security forces for that purpose otherwise we should not have them. Why were the Muthalikas not followed and killed? It means they were not rebels and went abroad to work for UN organizations, i.e., greener pastures. That was cold war politics. Today political opponents are seen as enemies and they offices burnt, their vehicles burnt etc. Recently we buried innocent poor people of the same family in Area 24. Please do not get brainwashed. We are in democracy and free to choose the government that we want. This is contrary to what Jane Ansah and Peter Muthalika are doing. You can’t go to Phalombe and campaign freely. What kind of nation is this? Is this what we wanted in 1993?

    Mutharika is not ready for the presidency. Let us not be cheated. He will not be available for us. And with a weak Alliance he is leading, we could be led by a ghost president.

    Therefore let us vote for Chakwera whom we are right now seeing him in full campaign.

    Let us not blindly follow him just because we come from the same area or region. It will be too late to say I wish I knew. It will be too late. The milk will have spilled.

  15. On Satruday, Atupele was in Kasungu with a crowd bigger than TONSE alliance’s in Zomba. He then travelled to Mzuzu where people waited until past 8 madzulo. Mwanayu anthu mumamudelera koma akutipula ndime. TONSE alliance mukuyiwona game m’mene ikuyendera koma?

  17. Chakwera is stone-hearted. For a religious leader to lead violent demonstrations and speak words of violence as he has done the past 12 months is something that is beyond comprehension. Not even John Tembo behaved this way when he lost elections

  18. Atupele is a ‘trained’ genius. He is able to repeat what the Ngwazi used to tell us in the 70s and 80s once he had built a few mushroom-like office blocks in Lilongwe: ‘I have developed this country beyond recognition’. And that time, I had been to Chipata, Zambia and I believed the Ngwazi.
