BB, Moyale Presidential Cup final free entry – Govt

Malawi government through the ministry of sports has made it clear that the Presidential Cup final involving Bullets FC and Moyale Barracks will be watched free of charge.

Bullets FC which is currently enjoying a good form welcome Mzuzu base soldiers Moyale Barracks at Kamuzu Stadium this Saturday.

Sports Minister Enock Chinana told MBC Radio on Wednesday that the government see no reason for fans to pay for a cup which they sponsor themselves through paying tax.

“This cup is sponsored by government using tax payers money so there is no way the same tax payers should pay to watch the cup final,” said Chihana.

Chihana: Free

“Therefore I am urging Malawians to Kamuzu Stadium this Saturday and see their money at work” he added.

The development is contrary to what the organisers of the cup (Football Association of Malawi) earlier announced that fans were supposed to pay.

According to earlier arrangement by FAM, the charges were as follows: K500 open stands, K2, 000 MBC Stand, K3, 000 Covered stand and K5, 000 VIP stand.

Chihana has also revealed that First Gentleman retired Chief Justice Richard Banda will be the guest of honour at the cup final.

“The guest of honour will be the First Gentleman because Her Excellency-Joyce Banda is engaged with other duties,” said the sports minister.

Meanwhile, Chihana says his ministry is strategising on how best to provide maximum security on the day of final considering that a lot happens at the stadium when spectators walk in for free.
