Beware of Facebook business deals: Malawi man tricked

A Malawi farmer in the eastern region district of Machinga by a hair’s breadth could have lost fifty 50kg bags of rice to a bogus business deal he had found on social networking site Facebook.

Sani Bwanali, 27, told police that a buyer masquerading as Maletso Banda, who he had first interacted on ‘Lets Do Business Malawi,”  assured him of buying all his bags of rice.

According to Bwanali, Banda had asked him to ferry the rice to Ntcheu.

Ntcheu police deputy publicist Hastings Chigalu said upon realizing that Banda was making so many excuses even after taking with him the rice, Bwanali tipped the police.

The police followed up with Banda, who run away living the rice behind.

  2. so are the the estate agents who tout houses for rent in Nidrande, Nkolokosa, Chitawira etc- Blantyre and Area 18 A and B in Lilongwe townships. They tell prospective tenants to deposit money into their accounts. The fraudster would pretend that he is not in town at the time and would tell a client to meet some other person. it personally happened to me, fortunately i didnt deposit the money, I demadned to see the house first in Ndirande – alas it was somebodys house and he was not letting it out!! Please lets wake up and beware of these fraudsters……..

  3. People should be very careful these days with crooks prying as business. They r so convincing that some put in suits and even books some places to meet in hotels. They even advertise in papers that they are buying seed products at very competitive price using some temporal number.I was one of them who got duped but fortunately we tracked their numbers thru airtel. So be careful with these business dealings. You may end up losing all your things to these heartless crooks for what you have worked hard for.
