Bikoko launches a K8 million inter-schools quiz competition
Youthful councilor of Chigoneka ward, Dr Desmond Bikoko, on Monday launched K8 million quiz competition at the function which took place at Mkwichi Primary school in the capital city City Lilongwe.
The function attracted government officials which included Deputy Minister of Education, Vincent Ghambi.
In his speech, Bikoko expressed concern over the dwindling quality of education in the country.
“I have grown in this area I know how the quality of education was at that time and the current status. The quality of education has gone down,” lamented Bikoko.
Bikoko then urged Malawians to assist government in improving quality of education by among other things devising various mechanisms.
“I am a son of Lilongwe and attended my primary school at Chigoneka in Area 47 sector 2 .I still have fond memories of the quality of education that we attained even at standard 5 levels. However, the same cannot be said of today’s standards especially in public schools where resources are limited,” said Bikoko.
Bikoko said foundation starts at primary school levels therefore “when education is accompanied by other reforms, it can be the best tool of improving learners abilities to be productive members of the society,”
In his remarks, Ghambi commended councillor Bikoko for the initiative saying the quiz competition will instil spirit of hard work among the learners and urged others to emulate.
In the competition, 8 schools will be tied with the host school until the winner is known at the end.

Well done Desmond. U have set a very good example. I would have loved our MPs could follow suit but unfortunately they r fond of buying coffins for the dead, zititengera pati zimenezi. If a mere concillor can do it what more and better with an MP? They look upon and blame government when government is themselves
