Bisnowaty relocates to contest Lilongwe City North constituency

Lilongwe City Centre Member of Parliament, l David Bisnowaty,  on Wednesday officially transferred his registration voting certificate from the constituency to Lilongwe City North, saying he has done so on the wishes of his supporters to run as an independent.

Bisnowaty did his transfer at Mbang’ombe Primary School taking advantage of the electoral calendar where registered voters are confirming their voters roll.

Speaking soon after undergoing the process, Bisnowaty confirmed to reporters that he is not running away from Tay Grin who is the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) candidate  but he has bowed down to wishes and aspirations of the people from the constituency who have been flocking to his house asking him to represent them.

“It’s not that I am running away from anybody, I am just doing this in response to the wishes of the people of the Lilongwe City North constituency,” he said.

He added that he has plans for the city but refused to name what he has prepared for the constituency.

For over one month now there have been strong rumours circulating that Bisnowaty was switching constituencies when he was seen meeting community leaders of Lilongwe City North during the past few weeks.

He will face Malawi Congress Party (MCP) candidate  Chrissy Tembo, UTM’s Newton Kambala and DPP’s Smolet Kachere.

Privy information to us indicates that Bisnowaty is not happy that the DPP imposed  Tay Grin – son of Cabinet Minister Jean Kalirani as Lilongwe City Centre torch bearer.

Bisnowaty is very optimistic of carrying the day in Lilongwe City North constituency.

This has not come as a surprise as Bisnowaty announced  few days ago that he is not contesting during the forth coming DPP primaries.

Meanwhile, Alfred Gangata, withdrew from the DPP’s Lilongwe City Centre primary elections of before the exercise commenced to pave way for Tay Grin to go unchallenged.

Gangata, who is an entrepreneur and sponsors a Super League football team, Masters Security, was favourite to win the primaries

MCP is fielding youthful businesman Alfred Jiya in the constituency.

Chrissy Tembo, Newton Kambala, Smolet Kachere, and now David Bisnowaty? All these big guns fighting it out in one constituency? Oh my gosh! There will be a lot of fireworks there! I’m already salivating at the prospect of watching a really good fight. Can’t just wait to see who will be the champ come the big day.
