Blantyre Mayors trophy launch on Wednesday: Joseph Kamwendo to grace event
Mighty Be Forward Wanderers midfielder Joseph Kamwendo is expected to be the headliner during the official launch of the K10 million Mayors trophy. The launch is scheduled to take place on Wednesday evening at Mount Soche Hotel in Blantyre.

Speaking to Nyasa Times ahead of the launch, Public Relations Manager for Blantyre City Council (BCC) Anthony Katsunda, the decision to pick Kamwendo was made a long time ago.
“We had to pick someone who would be inspirational to the kids. He (Kamwendo) has achieved a lot in football having played at the top level for a long period. We hope he can motivate them.
“The Mayors trophy is here to stay. Apart from Kamwendo, the launch will also be graced by Minister of Local government and rural development Kondwani Nankhumwa. We have a number of suprises on the day and people should just be on the lookout,” said Katsunda.
Kamwendo told Nyasa Times that he is delighted to be recognised by BCC.
“I am really honored to be given such recognition . The Mayors trophy is a such an important event and I will use this opportunity to motivate the next stars of the game. I started from a scratch like anyone else and hope the kids will be inspired,” said Kamwendo who scored a brace during his team’s win over Karonga United on Saturday.
The Mayors trophy will be competed by learners in Blantyre urban city.
