The trophy was launched at St Mathews Primary School Ground in the district Sunday.

Speaking during the launch, Issa said sports was an important tool for young stars and acts as one way of keeping the youths away from bad habits.

“So, by getting the youths busy I thought this could be the best initiative to do. This activity is one of the promises I made during my campaign rallies and come 2019 I would like to make sure that almost 3 or 4 trophies have been competed for,” he said.

Issa emphasized that the event was not political but rather to keep people especially youths busy and entertained.

“People should realize that I am here for the real things not just to ask for their votes. I would like to make sure that the communities in my constituency get what they deserve from their MP and this is what I have started,” he said.

On his part, veteran politician and former Minister of Transport and Public works in the Joyce Banda regime, Sidik Mia who was also the guest of honour at the event said it was very interesting to witness the launch of the trophy by the incumbent MP of the area, Zaheer Gaffar Issa.

He said sporting activities were very important to the society as they provide help produce a healthy nation.

“I would like to applaud the incumbent MP for taking an initiative to launch the trophy. This goes along to the fact that such activities deter people especially the young people from doing the bad behaviours and that they will find something to do,” said Mia

Six zones that include Nchalo, Ndirande, Tomali, Bereu, M’bande and Dyeratu are participating in the football league which is expected to last roughly five to six months with each zone having its own prize money ranging from K100,000, K80,000, K50,000, K30,000, K20,000 to K15,000.

Contingency balls have also been provided for each zone committee in case their balls burst during matches.

During the launch, Bereu Giants drew 1-1 against Nchalo Stars and shared K40,000 each on top of K50,000 that each team got as a donation from Mia.
