Blantyre shock Silver, Civo blackouts Escom

Silver Strikers failed to find their winning theory on Saturday in the elite TNM Super League as they went down 2-0 to Blantyre United at Kalulu Stadium in Nchalo.

The Bankers were last week frustrated by Azam Tigers on their back yard after a 1-1 draw.

In Saturday’s encounter, Blantyre United were a better side comparing with the Area 47 out-fit.

Two goals from Sunday Kumuyamba and Victor Limbani were enough to silence the Dan Dzinkambani boys, who have to pull up their socks if their ambition to grab the title is anything to go by.

Civo players celebrate

Blantyre United Coach Elijah Kananji vowed to keep their winning pace inoder to finish on a better position at the end of the league.

“My boys are now playing with a purpose and my message to other teams is that if they underrate us, they will be in for it, “said Kananji, whose side in now leading on the log table with 31 points.

Silver Strikers mentor Dan Dzinkambani had a few words, “It was not our day but we will bounce back soon.”

As the Bankers were being pruned in Nchalo, their Capital City fellow giants Civo United were on a serious business as they won 1-0 to Escom United.

The Area 3 side scored their lone goal through former Mighty Wanderers defender Pililani Makupe.

This was a sweet revenge for the Alex Masanjala boys, who lost to the defending champions 2-1 in the first round in Blantyre.

In another, controversial encounter in Zomba between Cobbe Barracks and Embangweni United, the match was stopped in the 85 minutes after Embangweni players refused to continue for not being satisfied with Cobbe’s goal.

Embangweni United players accused the referee of allowing Cobbe’s goal, which they said it did not cross the goal line.

The referee granted the goal to the soldiers.

Super League of Malawi general secretary Williams Banda told Nyasa Times that they will wait for the match commissioners report to decide on the outcome of the game.
