Blantyre United pip Nomads to climb to top of Malawi TNM Super League
Blantyre United dislodged Big Bullets on the summit table of the elite TNM Super League on Saturday following their 4-2 victory to Mighty Wanderers in an exciting encounter at Balaka Stadium.
United also popularly known as, ‘Mphembedzu’ have 39 points a point ahead the Peoples Team, who had no game.
During the game, the Nomads, who dominated the proceedings of the match in the first 45 minutes were first to notch a goal through Victory Mpinganjira, who headed in a Joseph Kamwendo’s cross in the 5th minutes.
However, Blantyre United equalized in the 24th minutes courtesy of their of their danger man Sparrow Msowoya.
Five minutes after BTU’s goal, the Nomads kissed the back of Semion Kapuza’s goal through inspirational midfielder Joseph Kamwendo on a spot kick after Mike Kaziputa was brought down in the forbidden box.
The Nomads displayed fantastic football until the recess time, especially on the midfield where Kamwendo and Gerald Chimbaka were operating from.
Come second half, Blantyre United breathed fire, as they kept the Nomads defence on the tight rope especially through Brown Mizeyi and Sparrow Msowoya.
The duo of Msowoya and Mizeyi gave the Nomads defence, which was marshaled by Foster ‘Zagaf’ Namwera an intensive pressure which led to Namwera handling the ball in the area 18 yard box forcing the referee to Francis Scover to point on the spot kick.
Mizeyi converted BTU equalizer to make both sides 2-2 in the 17th minutes.
Knowing that any victory will see them on the summit table, Blantyre United fought hard until Brown Mizeyi scored their third goal in the 22 minutes before Msowoya nailed the last nail on the Nomads coffin.
The Nomads coach Felix Fosco tried to make some changes in the second half by introducing Allan Kamanga for Francis Mlimbika, Gerald Chimbaka for Alfred Manyozo but the damage was already done.
Blantyre United Coach Elijah Kananji told Nyasa Times after the final whistle that he was relieved beating the Nomads for the second time.
In the first round, it was BTU as well beating the Nomads 3-2.
“This is a sweet victory to us because we are on top of the summit table,”said Kananji.
The Nomads next assignments next week will be against Moyale Barracks and Kabwafu in Mzuzu.
In another encounter, Escom United lost 3-1 to Moyale Barracks in Zomba.
At Chitowe Stadium, Silver Strikers nearly gave away their lead following a 4-3 victory to Mafco .
The Bankers were leading 3-0 at one point in time until the Salima based soldiers started coming back up to the game ending 4-3.
