Blantyre Utd defeats Tigers in bid to claim 3rd place: Malawi TNM Super League

Blantyre United resurrected from their embarrassingly 5-0 loss to champions Silver Strikers some weeks to defeat Azam Tigers in match played before an almost empty Kamuzu Stadium on Friday.

The game itself was dull, characterized by aerial balls.

Blantyre United, also popularly known as ‘Mphembedzu’  who were missing the services of their hit-man Brown Mizeyi , who is nursing an injury  left the spectators with many questions as they failed to play their usual entertaining  football .

Second half started on a high note s barely 20 seconds from the kick-off, Tizgowere Kumwenda’s
counter attack after Tigers defenders lost possession gave him a chance to dribble Kondwani Lufeyo before releasing a beauty into Tigers net.

The goal resulted in Tigers coach Leo Mpulula to watch most part for the proceedings on the touch line trying to pep-talk his players and lift them but it paid no dividends.

Mpulura, who accepted their defeat, blamed his striking force for being too much respectful to the opposite side.

Blantyre United coach Elijah Kananji said he was delighted with the win, saying though they are not in contention for the title, a respectable third place with be good news for them.

United only needs a point in their Saturday’s encounter against EPAC FC for them to finish the 2012-2013 TNM Super League season on the third position.
