Blue Eagles reclaim top spot with win over Civo: Malawi TNM Super League

Blue Eagles FC on Sunday convincingly beat struggling Civo United 2-0 at Nankhaka Stadium to reclaim the top spot in the ongoing top flight TNM Super League.

The Eagles who were coming from an embarrasing 4-0 loss to Kamuzu Barracks a fortnight ago scored the opening goal in the 35th minute through Gilbert Chirwa.

Chirwa who was the toast of the day went on to orchestrate the second goal after he made a brilliant run cruising past three Civo defenders before setting up for substitute Wister Phiri who produced a clinical finish beating Civo advancing goalkeeper Victor Banda.

Eagles now have 21 points two ahead of Silver Strikers who are now on second position.

Speaking after the match, Blue Eagles coach Deklerk Msakakuona said he was delighted to have collected maximum points although their performance wasn’t that impressive.

Msakakuona said he will make sure they keep focused to maintain their lead as Silver Strikers will be looking forward to win all their next matches as they eye the first position.

On his part, Civo coach Millias Pofera Jegwe conceded the defeat but said he is optimistic that the team will starting performing better
and collect points soon.

He blamesd youthful goalkeeper Banda for making school boy mistakes that costed them the game.

Elsewhere, at the Mzuzu stadium, third placed Mzuni FC failed to move up on log standings after they narrowly lost 1-0 to visiting Epac FC.

Epac has become the first team to collect maximum points at the Mzuzu Stadium since the 2016-17 season started.

Mafco FC have displaced Moyale Barracks from fourth position after beating the Mzuzu based soldiers 1-0 courtesy of Richard Mbulu strike.

Mbulu, who was dropped at the national team by coach Ernest Mtawali, has now brought his tally of league goals to six one ahead of Chiukepo Msowoya of Big Bullets who has five goals.

Mbulu first time connected home a Joseph Doza pass in the second half to seal his clubs’ victory.

A the Kamuzu Stadium, Kamuzu Barracks started their Southern Region tour on a bad note after losing to Azam Tigers 1-0.

Action continues on Sunday as Zomba based soldiers Red Lions welcome Kamuzu Barracks at the Zomba Community Centre Ground.

Dwangwa United play Moyale Barracks at the Chitowe Stadium while Karonga United host Epac at the Mzuzu Stadium.
