Blue Eagles duo say ‘team spirit’ key to their success

Two members of the Blue Eagles FC squad, who played a valuable role in helping their team win the Standard Bank Cup, have attributed their success to the player’s spirit of unity.

Blue Eagles defeated two-time winners of the cup, Moyale 2-1 on December 11 to end their 16 year silverware drought at the Police Headquarters.

Loti Chawinga and John Banda said the cops were “united” and “disciplined” which led to their victory.

Banda, who was also voted as the tournament’s top goal scorer, said: “First I should thank our sponsors for being patient and committed to our club, they gave us all the required support so that we can succeed.

“And also our all the players deserve a credit, because on that final game we followed what the coach told us and played as a team.”

Chawinga said: “Moyale is always tough to beat in the final, but we worked as a team.”

He further added that the cup victory will give them a major boost in their confidence in the bid to claim a double this season by fighting for a league title.

“Winning this cup will give us an extra motivation and we are left with nine games in the league which is enough for us to win the title and am positive we can make it,”Chawinga said.

Blue Eagles are placed on position 12 in TNM Super League standings with 28 points, with five games in hand, 10 points less those of the current leaders Silver Strikers.
