Body of dead baby found dumped in a pit of human faeces — Malawi Police

A one year old baby was found dead in a pit latrine in Lilongwe on Monday this week, according to Kanengo Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Salome Zgambo.

Baby was brought out of the toilet covered with maggots.

Police said  on 30 May at around lunch time Alena a daughter to 32 year old Namaluwa Yotamu went missing when she went to the maize meal leaving the baby with some children.

“Upon returning from the maize meal Yotamu did not find the baby after searching all possible places,” said Zgambo

She added that it was on the 5th of June when the baby was found floating in one of the pit latrines around the houses they live.

The scene of the crime was visited by the police and medical personnel who confirmed that death was due to suffocation.

In a related case, an unidentified man was found dead in area 25 Lilongwe on Sunday night.

Zgambo said the man was found along the road in Area 25 sector 8 with some beer vomit in his mouth and nose.

Meanwhile, the body has been conveyed to Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) mortuary pending identification as well as a postmortem.
