Blantyre vendors players physically assaulted and confronted Southern Region Football Association (SFRA) Chairman Raphael Humba as well as the officiating Personnel assigned to officiate their match against Balaka Eagles.

This followed the decision by the referee with influence from Humba as the overseer and man in-charge of the game in calling off the game following the Vendors late arrival at tne venue.

The match was supposed to be a curtain-raiser to a Carlsberg Cup Round of 16 match between Cobbe Barracks and Blantyre United.

Blantyre Vendors arrived at the stadium at around 12:33pm and by then, the referee and the home team were still dressed and right in the field of play.

The visitors straight away started to dress up and in the process, the referee and other league officials including Humba himself called for a brief dialogue meeting with captains and officials from both sides.

Humba however indicated it was difficult for the game to take place because the stadium was to be taken over for the main event at 1:40pm.

He therefore ruled that points be awarded to Balaka Eagles since the visitors had arrived late.

This did not go down well with Blantyre Vendors players who begun to pour insults at Humba and the referees.

They argued that the match forms indicated two different kick off times with the other indicating 12:00pm with the other showing
12:30pm.

Things got worse when the referee walked out of the pitch and was about to start filling the match report form to declare Balaka Eagles
the winners.

One of the players for Vendors charged towards the referee, snatched the form from him and threw it to the direction where Humba was sitting.

As all this was happening, Humba was taking pictures of the nasty incidents that were happening using his mobile phone.

The players then turned to him and tried to manhandle him.

It was not known whether it was because he was taking pictures or the same reason of calling off the game.

Humba again also lost his temper but he was controlled and calmed down by Police Officers and Stewards at the scene.

He was overhead shouting at Blantyre Vendors team that “I am straight away suspending you from the league”.

Humba could not reveal the final judgement in regard to the result of the match when asked by Nyasa Times after the dust had settled.

But results of of games played on Saturday aired on various radio stations indicates that Balaka Eagles have been awarded maximum points and two goals.

Mr. Humba, be realistic!!! You are the crop of people who are destroying football in Malawi. You are a boot leaker for Water Nyamilandu and please don’t spoil the game for your silly benefits!!! This is the very reason that Mavuto Missi was considered to be a better person to captain the stinking league. Are you aware that these vendors use their resources to run the Club? You are what you are now by mere coincidence!!! You do not have good papers to be employed by Illovo Company a Multinational Company for that matter!!! It is because you always leak… Read more »
