In an interesting turn of events Mighty Wanderers archrivals Bullets fan became the first winner of Mighty Wanderers ‘Noma Yathu’ SMS Promotion during the first draw held over the weekend at Wanderers club house in Blantyre.
The Mzuzu based fan, Catherine Kaunda, won a plasma TV screen.
Consolation prizes were also given out to 20 participants who won golf shirts
Kukoma cooking oil.
Nomads General Secretary Mike Butao said the development justified that the promotion was open to other team’s fans.
He also disclosed that draws will be conducted every last Fridays of every month.
However the General Secretary claimed that as at now they not know how much has been generated because the agency that has been contracted to run the promotion is yet to provide them with the statistics of the promotion.
Butao urged fans to support the promotion by sending their SMSs through TNM network for the team to achieve their target of K200 million by February next year.
Wanderers chairman George Chamangwana promised after being elected during the elections earlier this year that he would provide a minibus and three sets of Plasmas TVs for the promotions as one way of generating money for the operations of the club.
However the promotion took time to roll out after some rights hitches with Super League of Malawi sponsors TNM who were not comfortable with the team’s arrangement for the promotions to be run also on their rivals Airtel mobile service.
