Business lady nabbed in body parts trade

Police in Salima have arrested a prominent business woman in the district after investigations linked her to the vicious male genitals trade.

The woman, Rosemary Nkhoma, who owns the popular Tendai Lodge and Restaurant at Kamuzu Road, the hub of economic activities in the lakeshore district, was locked up Tuesday afternoon.

Pandemonium broke loose at Kamuzu Road Police Unit that morning when the law enforcers arrested a 24-year-old man who was selling freshly cut male genitals to the business lady.

Nkhoma: Arrested

The suspect was identified as Samuel Banda, a Lhomwe from Kambalame village, T/A Kambalame in the same district.

Salima Police Officer-in-Charge, Senior Assistant Commissioner Foster Peter Mangani confirmed the arrest of Nkhoma.

He said the business lady was under police custody as part of investigations after the suspect implicated her in the matter.

“During interrogations, the suspect alleged that he was sent by the said lady that is why we have arrested her,” he explained.

Nkhoma is the mother of popular gospel songbird Bertha, who also confirmed to Nyasa Times that her mother was under police custody for being implicated in the matter.

“It is true she has been arrested because the man is now alleging that he was sen tby my mum. But how can that happen when the same person being implicated to have sent him was the one who alerted police for him to be arrested,” wondered a visibly dejected Nkhoma, wearing a blue blouse and multi-coloured wrapper.

Satanic allegations

In another development, Nyasa Times has observed that people in the area are delighted with the arrest of Nkhoma as they  claim she is a member of Satanic cult despite owning a prayer hall behind her business complex.

“Her 40th day has arrived. She has killed many people and she has also had a hand in the death and mysterious missing of many people here, she is a woman-devil and she has to be punished,” one lady shouted on top of her voice as news of her arrest started making rounds.

Several people who spoke to Nyasa Times corroborated the lady’s claims saying almost every person in the area is aware of Nkhoma’s Satanism and private parts business and it was not surprising that she was mentioned.

“People know it but none of her agents has publicly said it apart from confiding in their buddies. What the young man has said [tha the was sent by her] can in no way be disputed,” said a fresh fish vendor at Kamuzu Road market who answered to the name Jafali.

Hundreds of people gathered at the Kamuzu Road Police Unit baying for the blood of the young man, who together with his two accomplices currently at large, have rendered45-year-old Amidu Amini ‘ineffective’ as he will never again enjoy conjugal rights in his life.

A police land cruiser vehicle with fully armed officers had to whisk him away to Salima Police Station to quell the situation.

However, this did not help matters as within minutes the news was all over town and hundreds of people also gathered at the station to have a glimpse of the ‘killer.’

According to Police, the suspect confessed to have sold many private body parts to other well known business personalities in the district such as one only identified as Dyson who also owns a famous lakeside lodge.

Nkhoma’s version

Before her arrest, Nkhoma told a group of reporters from different media houses attending training in the district she had reported the issue to police two months ago when the man first approached her, a development police confirmed.

“When he came to me some two months ago he said he had heard that I buy male private organs and I admitted with an idea that when he comes again police should do their job.

“But then he never showed up on the agreed date when police were ready until yesterday evening when he approached me again. I told him to bring them [genitals] and indeed he brought them this morning around 6am as I was taking a bath. He offered me at K60 000 but I negotiated for K50 000. All this was to hold him so that the police should find him there,” Nkhoma told reporters.

But some people have blamed the business lady for asking the man to bring thegenitals saying whether or not she is involved in the business she contributedto the attempted murder of Amini, the 45-year-old victim, by asking Banda to bring the genitals.

Meanwhile, hospital reports indicate the victim is still battling with life after losing a lot of blood but he is out of danger though he will never again enjoy his conjugal rights.

The victim met his fate around 1am on Tuesday as he staggered home from a drinking spree near Railways location, along the Salima-Senga bay road.
