Cabinet shake-up fever grips , Malawi ministers to undergo performance review this month

Press Secretary for the State President, Brian Banda has revealed that the performance review for the cabinet will be done by December.

On July 10, 2020 during swearing in of cabinet ministers, President Dr Lazarus Chakwera said the performance of cabinet ministers would be reviewed after five months.

“You each have five months to produce results, at the end of that period, you will each give a report publicly on your progress in each of the key performance indicators,” he said.

Speaking on the sidelines of a State House weekly update on Monday at Sanjika Palace in Blantyre, Banda said reviewing performance of the cabinet ministers will lead to firing of all underperforming ministers.

“The mention time ends in December and the cabinet ministers will be assessed and when the president is ready, he is going to review his cabinet and the firing or appointing of cabinet ministers afterwards will be decided by the president,” he said.

However, Banda has called for patience on plans to review the current performance of cabinet ministers.

“Malawians should wait until the president comes up with the outcome of the performances of cabinet ministers.

“Let me assure Malawians that this will be done according to the time frame given by the president,” he added.

On a different development, Banda has refuted social media reports that government is planning to buy a presidential jet.

“Reports that Malawi Government is planning to buy a presidential jet are not true and are just hearsay.

“Currently, Malawians are doing so much with too little, so it is very difficult for government to buy the presidential jet,” Banda said.

    mankhwala akusowa pls check propery with the Dr wankuluyo. drugs are being sold to private clinics in the District and even hospital personnel have private pharmacies loaded with any drug.
    patients are been sent to buy drugs to these pharmarcies.
    my relative was their for scan and was sent back as the scan gel they use was out of stock the whole Malawi He was told. So going back to the doctor who advised for the scan them two went back the Xray and shortly the gel was found available. kha anabwera nthawi yanji????
    and listening to what the visit was like, that was fake because not much was said. HYGIENE within the premises. oooh God. its a big haulage needed there. NDANGODUTSAMO ETITU. TOO MUCH THEFT THEIR

  6. If possible, Mt President try to hire Harrison Kalua he was once a chairman of chambers of commerce and chief executive of the Mzuzu small holder coffee. One thing I like about that guy is ndiwanzeru, was born a servant leader Koma chomalizitsa, he is a God fearing and staunch believer in God

  7. Gospel K made Malawians proud When he handled the Bushiri escape with dignity. He is so calm and never evade any questions. He looks jerked up in his position. Keep the guy there. He is admirable to watch and listen to. That is a true minister material. I felt so good watching my Malawian minister talking like a real minister. Uyi nkalakatha baba. You rock.

    1. There was nothing amazing about Kazako. He was played by the SA Govt. He was busy responding to Social Media issues and didn’t know when not to refer issues to the Foreign Affairs ministry..He was lost.

      For example- The reporter asks him to tell us how Buhiri entered Malawi..Why then was he bothered about asking them on how he left SA? Kodi wakuba analowa bwanji mnyumba mwanu? Iyayi inuyo mundiuze kuti iyeyo mnyumba mwake anatuluka bwanji? Rubbish.

      We want to be told what he has achieved or promoted at the MICT.

      For me I learnt that he fired Mzati due to the fact that he was irregulary recruited only to employ Mtumodzi in a similar manner.

  9. You can never see anything positive from these Ministers because in the first place you never wanted this Government. Who can trust you with this task now. Just go and sort out yr Leader of Opposition pot belly, period.

  10. As the firing is happening, let us not forget who appointed the so called underperforming ministers.
    It is also said that a bad carpenter blames his tools.

  11. When assessing these Ministers remember these Gates: Crossroads Gate, Indian Cash Gate; Immigration Gate; Ambulance Gate, Nocma Gate. Remind me other gates.

    1. I agree with you Paulos Mlimi. For only these 5 months we have seen worst Ministers who have amassed untold worth more than what DPP Ministers had for over 5 years. This is so because of the bribes they are receiving, contracts given to themselves. This has happened in the following Ministries, Foreign Affairs, State House, Health, Homeland, NOCMA. Nanga kuthere zaka 5. I regret voting for Tonse.

    He must not be removed or changed.
    He is worthy to be a Government SP&yes Min of Information.
    Your Excellency, please keep Kazako there in …very fit saving as a Government SP which is run by one of the most wise president of the world

    1. If anything Kadzako is a complete misfit for the ministry of information. I was with him at Chanco but the guy is very dull and was using people to write his dessertation. Sincehe assumed his position he has never called for a management meeting but is always on the road claiming allowances. Kadzako is very useless.

        Kazako is much clever than u my friend coz he has shown his capacity of being the founder of one of the vibrant radio station we have in Malawi .
        He is the brain child of radio station which employs close to 100 people and this radio station has a capacity to compete at international level.

      3. I agree that he paid people to write his assignments but that’s a story for another day. Today’s stories are:

        1. Kazako has not brought anything worth pointing at the Ministry of Information.

        2. We expected him to tell us about Malawi’s digitisation progress and where are we with Smart cities

        3. We have not heard anything about data must fall progress

        4. Airtel has given us worse service and Kazako is just sitting phwii with MACRA

        5. The District information centers have been very dull no life and all we hear from his rotten mouth is Tonse Philosophy this or that and we do not even know what that Philosophy is.

        6. Kazako must learn about Diplomacy and international relations. Any serious minded person that followed the SA Bushiri escape would understand that Kazako was excited and missed a lot of hints. The SA Govt was quiet, they used their media to cover up and Malawi was busy through Kazako to respond to Social Media issues which any serious government wont..He must know what must be responded to by his Ministry and what must be replied to by Foreign Ministry.
        7. Being a radio presenter and being a Serious Spokesperson are different things…He needs proper advisors.

  16. Except for 3 or 4 ministers the rest must go. They are time expired. Replace them with technocrats. Political appointments will harm MCP

Khumbize Chiponda wayesesa, Sidik Mia, Michael Usi, akweni, deputy wa local government should be Halima Daudi, Lobin Lowe, Kazako, Chimwendo, Mkaka, Abida Mia…amenewa nkuona kwanga ayesesa, ku Enegry azipaka ndinkhani ya NOCMA and Helen Buluma nde kukufunika kusintha, education exam leakage yawasokoneza….the president and the vice are complimenting each other well
