Callista succeeds in removing Mutharika’s children as managers of K61bn estate
Former first lady Callista Mutharika has so far succeeded in her pursuit to remove former president Bingu wa Mutharika’s daughters, Duwa and Tapiwa as administrators of the controversial deceased’s estate
Callista, who did not appear as a beneficiary in Bingu’s will drawn in March 2008, about two years before the late Mutharika married her, filled an application before the court to remove Duwa and Tapiwa as administrators of the estate estimated at K61 billion (about $152m) .
Acciording to the consent filed at the High Court in Zomba on Friday, the two parties have agreed to appoint new administrators to manage the deceased’s estate, removing Duwa and Tapiwa as administrators.

The new administrators are lawyers Kalekeni Kaphale and James Tomoka, representing the two daughters and Callista, respectively, to be assisted by Modecai Mshisha, who is on the side of Bingu’s daughters.
The agreement to appoint caretaker administrators was reached as part of an out-of-court settlement the two parties thrashed out
The two parties also agreed to set aside letters of administration for Mutharika’s estate separately obtained by Callista at the High Court in Blantryre and Mutharika’s daughters at the High Court in Zomba.
The former president’s estate is also engulfed by another legal battle as government is seeking K5 billion in unpaid estate duty.
