Malawi College of Accountancy student commits suicide

What was to be parental talk ended dreadfully in Malawi’s capital Lilongwe after a child, against his parents’ free advice, decided to take his own life.

Charles Mabvuto, a 24-year-old Malawi College of Accountancy (MCA) student, committed suicide by hanging this week after his parents reproved him for his excessive guzzling of beer, police have confirmed.

Police said the deceased, who hailed from Taulo Village, T/A Chikowi in Zomba, took his own life on the night of 8th, 2013 in the uptown suburb of Area 12 in the city where he was residing with his parents.suicide

“His parents reprimanded him for his undue beer drinking habit and that did not please him so he went straight to his bedroom where he hanged himself,”  Lilongwe Police Deputy Public Relations Officer, Kingsley Dandaula explained.

His body was discovered hanging in the morning of 9th July and a postmortem conducted at Kamuzu Central Hospital on the 10th of July revealed he died of strangulation.

The police publicist said on the fateful day, as per his tendency, the deceased arrived home very high, a development that did not please his parents who advised him against his habit.
