Carjacker jailed 14 years: Malawi Police recover stolen vehicles

The Malawi police Anti-Motor Vehicle Theft unit has recovered two vehicles that were stolen and sold in Mozambique and Police spokeswoman, Rhoda Manjolo said they managed to apprehend the suspect, Binton Ganizani who has since bee convicted and sentenced to 14 years imprisonment with hard labour.

Ganizani and his accomplices are said to have robbed Toyota Coaster 32 seater registration number LA 5912 from Mable Nyirenda on 6th June, 2014 and a Toyota Dyna registration number NU8148 from Grem Kabuluzi Tembo on 25th February this year.

He is also reported to have stolen a  Nissan Note which belonged to Platinum Car Hire.

According to Manjolo, Ganizani has been slapped with five years for the case involving Toyota coaster and nine years for the case involving the Nissan Note.

”He (Ganizani)  and his accomplices had hired the Toyota Coaster claiming they were going to a wedding ceremony, and on the way they attacked the driver and went away with the vehicle to Tete,” Manjolo explained.

The vehicle was recovered on 22nd March, 2015  in Mozambique.

Manjolo added: ”They robbed Toyota Dyna from Mr. Tembo after they hired it to ferry maize from Salima to Dedza. Upon arrival in Dedza they attacked the driver and made away with the vehicle to Mozambique.”
