Catholic priest slams greedy Malawian politicians, attacks Tembo

Catholic priest Fr. Samuel Nawasha of St. Charles Lwanga parish in Zomba diocese said Malawi Congress Party (MCP) president John Tembo’s interest to become second vice president is out of greed and not to serve the nation.

“When you see somebody who says I want to be appointed second vice president. Is that not selfishness? Do we have the money [for that?] And political parties have abandoned principles of their parties and come together and formed what they call national unity government. Isit national unity government?,” wondered the clergy.

Fr. Nawasha also attacked Members of Parliament who dumped former ruling  Democratic Progressive Party and the late president Bingu wa Mutharika soon after he died , saying they are greedy and having no interest to serve Malawi but fulfil their personal wishes.

Tembo: Eyes second vice president post

The cleric was giving a homily during Eucharistic Celebration on Radio Maria on Sunday.

The theme of his homily was that God is inviting everybody to participate in His Kingdom.

And basing on the first reading from the book of Ezekiel, Fr. Nawasha told the congregation and the nation to emulate the example of Ezekiel who remained firm to God despite forces and problems that stopped many from remaining with God.

Ezekiel at that time promised to take care of the House of God despite the fall of the kingdom which saw many believers dumping God.

Said Nawasha  of the greedy politicians: “What happened when Bingu died? Some left him even before his burial and joined other parties. And when section 65 is invoked some are returning to their parties. Why? Because they do not have financial security. Is that not selfishness? Where is God?”

“Ezekiel says I will serve the Lord no matter what. I will not leave.”

Tembo briefed his MPs last Sunday that he is still waiting for his appointment as second vice president.

DPP wrote Speaker of Parliament to declare vacant seats of its 45 MPs who have dumped the party and joined Peoples Party of President Joyce Banda.

The Speaker wrote the MPs to defend themselves and some have since backtracked and gone back to DPP fearing that once their seats are declared vacant they will not win in by-elections.
