Chakakala Chaziya hands over girls’ hostel, clinic to boost education and healthcare in Lilongwe Chilobwe

Member of Parliament for Lilongwe Chilobwe, Lawrence Chakakala Chaziya, has handed over a newly constructed girls’ hostel at Kamzimbi Community Day Secondary School (CDSS) and a clinic at Mang’a in a move aimed at improving education and healthcare services in the constituency.

Speaking during the official handover ceremony at Kamzimbi CDSS in Lilongwe, Chakakala Chaziya said the girls’ hostel will help tackle major challenges affecting female learners, including school dropouts, early marriages, teenage pregnancies and poor accommodation conditions.

He said the facility is expected to create a safer and more supportive learning environment for girls.

The legislator also pledged continued support towards girls’ education through the Chakakala Chaziya Initiative for Education, which provides school fees assistance to vulnerable girls in the constituency.

Chakakala Chaziya said the newly constructed clinic at Mang’a will strengthen healthcare delivery, particularly for children under the age of five and vulnerable community members who previously struggled to access medical services.

“Currently, I have constructed two hostels at two secondary schools and I am planning to construct another two girls’ hostels at Mwala and Sendwe,” he said.

“I am also providing bursaries to 528 students from my constituency. Apart from that, I’m constructing classroom blocks in different primary schools, providing porridge to all 28 primary schools and implementing a project to build 34 nursery schools, of which more than 20 have already been completed.”

Traditional Authority Msinde commended the Member of Parliament for the developments, saying the projects demonstrate commitment to improving people’s welfare in the area.

He urged community members to take responsibility for protecting the newly constructed infrastructure so that future generations can continue benefiting from it.

Kamzimbi CDSS Head Teacher Jesoph Jona Chunga also thanked Chakakala Chaziya for constructing the girls’ hostel, saying the facility is expected to improve learners’ academic performance and increase the school’s pass rate.
