Chakwera avoids commenting on Bushiri matter

President Lazarus Chakwera has avoided commenting on the  issues surrounding Prophet Shepherd Bushiri and his wife Mary Bushiri who are being sought by South African government after an extradition application request has been made to Lilongwe following the couple’s jumping bail in the rainbow nation.

President Lazarus Chakwera has avoided commenting on Bushiri matter

When Bushiris  skipped South Africa,  it was speculated that they were smuggled out into his native Malawi by  President Chakwera, who was in  Pretoria to meet President Cyril Ramaphosa. But this turned out not to have been the case.

Speaking during the weekly media briefing at Sanjika Palace in Blantyre, Presidential press secretary Brian Banda  that the President would not say anything to avoid prejudicing the matter which is before the courts.

Banda said the matter is being handled by  relevant agents with capacity.

“The  President’s interest is to ensure that the rule of law is followed,” said Banda.

Bushiri appeared in the Lilongwe High Court last week Tuesday, where he and his wife challenged the constitutionality of their arrest.

The matter was adjourned to December 14 after the judge asked for more information from the state and the couple’s lawyers.

Bushiri, who is also known as “Major 1”, mysteriously left South Africa   last month.

The 37-year-old, who founded and leads the Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) church, was set to stand trial in a case of alleged fraud and money laundering of more than R100m.

His luxury mansion was seized and the couple forfeited a combined R400,000 bail money for contravening bail conditions set by the Pretoria Central magistrate’s court.

A case involving Bushiri’s co-accused, businessman Willah Mudolo , his wife Zethu and Landiwe Ntlokwana,  was postponed to December 8 at the Pretoria magistrate’s court on Thursday.

  1. Hope he is going back to face the music, blv that, nyasaland pple r being shouted in Pretoria coz ov ur stupidity name busiiiilllli

  2. Kuba amawabera yekha anthu a ku South Africa Bushiriyo. Chakwera was not involved and now you want him to comment about a thief? How important is Bushiri to the economic development of Malawi? Please musamukweze Bushiri mumtengo. He is not important. Ngwakwiba, nkhungu, mbava etc.

    1. Major Prophet Shepherd Bushiri is on to?
That’s why he is a topic. You wouldn’t be commenting if he was a none entity like you

  3. Ana a njoka muli mmadzi!
Major 1 enjoys Devine protection. There are special Angels that are assigned to protect him. The devil has his agents to fight Major 1, like Mangochi kabwafu, ngombwax, false prophet, and all like minded. The devil has assembled his army to fight Major 1. But its a forgone conclusion:Major 1 has already won the battle.
Ana a njoka zipangani zolubwalubwa. Kukakhaka kukuwa galu ndi kwake!
    We can’t stop you!
Can I get a minus from the brood of vipers !!

  4. Isn’t it obvious to the average Malawian that it is inevitable that Bushiri will be handed back to SA courts to face the law? If such a rich man is not guilty am sure his lawyers will ensure he is cleared.

Lets not act as if we dont understand basic laws.

  5. Let them repent and not expect glorification and diginification frm our president. If they were just they shd ve waited for the court to clear them and nit run away. Shit

  6. He shouldn’t and he should not have commented last time he was questioned during his visit to the north. You can not be seen fighting corruption and money laundering in your country but supporting and shielding your citizens who are being accused of the same in other countries.

  7. Good! The President should not glorify a fugitive and his wife, there is no need for the President to say anything. let the right authorities handle this.

  8. Bushiri and Mary do not need a Presidential comment, these are thieves running away from the long arm of the Law

  9. I really dont give a fuck about Bushiri, He and his wife can go to hell for swindling unsuspecting South Africans, some people lost all their life savings because of this couple, i do not feel sorry for them one bit

    1. u should be the one go to hell everyone has its own sins he escape from the danger now he is in malawi south africa ndi ma killers full of killing fellow black

  10. Expecting President Chakwera to comment on Bushiri is giving the conman way to much credit. Bushiri and his wife are fugitives, we cannot give them the same platform that south africans accorded them, this is Malawi, we know better than to be conned by a couple of fraudsters, we can smell thieves from miles away

  11. The President has more important issues than to worry/ comment about a conman , a fraudster and his older wife ( Bon and Clyde)
