Chakwera party loyalists out of all airport aprons

President Lazarus Chakwera has ordered that party loyalists, including dancing women who swam airports’ aprons whenever he is leaving the country or coming from abroad, be kicked out.

Chakwera briefs members of the press at airport. Now only a limited number of invited persons will be allowed entry into the airport apron during his departure and return from a visit abroad-pic by Lisa Kadango

According to a memo from secretary for Local government, Charles Kalemba, to district commissioners and chief executive officers, Chakwera has directed the ministry of Foreign Affairs that with immediate effect, only a limited number of invited persons will be allowed entry into the airport apron during his departure and return from a visit abroad.

“This is in line with guidelines laid down by the International Air Transport Association (AITA) which exempts from access onto the apron by unauthorized persons.

“The ministry of Foreign Affairs will, in this regard, be responsible for the invitations to the airport apron…,” says the memo in part.

Kalemba says people wishing to see the president off or welcome him on arrival will converge at the main stadium located outside the stadium where Chakwera might wish to address them.

I believe that a delegation of less than 50 people comprising VP, senior civil servants and senior political party gurus are enough to see off and welcome the President to and from trips. We have no need to be ferrying people in lorries from different parts of the country only to see him off or welcome him back home. A whole battalion of chiefs, youths, women abandoning their daily productive works to airports and sometimes enduring rains and scotching sun, for what? I love Dr Chakwela and Dr SKC but i still suggest that please change some of these unnecessary… Read more »

They really don’t need to be at the airport at all. It wastes a lot of our taxes to ferry them around, despite official claims to the contrary. They ought to spend their time productively in their offices and fields.

All this is a relic of the old dictatorship days of Kamuzu, where cult mentality reigned supreme.

Most malawians mostly women have nothing gainful to do hence they follow the president just to shame themselves by dancing. We have the most stupid women in Malawi.

I totally disagree,in malawi and Africa generally women are the ones leading in economic generation and self sufficiency i.e who do u mostly see ukapita kunsika and who are the largest numbers of subsistence farmers “women”..these are the two sectors that lead the most in economic uplift of sub Saharan Africa…so I disagree with your point and am guessing your mother and sisters would too .

I was wondering why they kept doing that because anyone who goes on the apron is supposed to go through security search like they do with passengers. If they want that, they should use military airport.
