He pledged that the MCP government would employ more teachers and give them good remuneration package.

Chakwera said the current education system is not fit for purpose, saying his MCP government will put emphasise on a quantitative and qualitative change in the education.

He noted that the teacher-pupil ratios are very poor and the country also suffer from chronic under-investment in quality teacher training and professional development.

“We will have an all-round approach to revamp the education sector. For example, we are targeting that after four years, we should build enough classrooms to make sure that no child should learn under a tree, reduce the pupil-teacher ratio and provide with then all necessary equipment for all subjects.”

Chakwera said MCP will promote students specialization according to everyone’s talent.

“I believe that if a student fails in some subjects does not mean that he is ignorant, he or she need to be empowered according to his talent, so we will make sure that he go further with education basing on that area he knows best,” he said.

Chakwera further promised that MCP will also aggressively invest in the vocational training “to absorb and give necessary skills to our youths after finishing their secondary education. This is the core that will drive our economy.”

Before that rally, Chakwera had a whistle stop tour along the way where he shared his vision in agriculture, economy and many sectors.
