Chance for Zomba Utd to win first round; Malawi’s 2nd tier football league

Former TNM Super League participants of two seasons ago, Zomba United have the chance of becoming this season’s Malawi second tier football league’s first round winners and carry good hopes of qualifying for the top flight football if they win their two remaining games.

Current leaders of the Southern Region Football League sponsored by Masters Security Services are Mitra Icons, who have 41 points but remaining with one game to wrap up the first round while Zomba United have 40 with two games to go.

Zomba United travel to Zomba Community Centre this Saturday to meet 7th-placed Cobbe Barracks while do not have a game this weekend.

On third placed are Blantyre United with 39 points but they finished their first round but they can be overtaken by 5th-placed Mighty Be Forward Reserves and 6th-placed MDF Marine if the two win both their two remaining games. These two tie at 36 points.

MDF Marine don’t have a game this weekend but Wanderers Reserves travel to Zomba to meet 17th-placed Prison United.

In the Central Region league sponsored by Chipiku Stores, Masters Security Services and Holy Cross Ambassadors have completed their first round tying on 41 points.

However, Masters Security Services are the leaders because of better goal difference.

On third place are Supports Battalion with 40 points with Airborne Rangers on fourth place with 39 points, tying and separated by goal difference with T.N. Stars.
