Chanthunya murder case back in court

Murder suspect Misozi Chamthunya is expected to be back in the High Court on December 11 when the  trial  will start for a case he  is being accused of murdering his Zimbabwean girlfriend Linda Gasa in 2010.

High Court registrar Agnes Patemba however said the court is still looking for a judge to preside over the case as the initial judge, Chifundo Kachale, will be preoccupied with other cases.

Patemba said the court has set December 11, 12 and 13 as trial dates for the high profile murder case.

Chanthunya was granted bail in February 2019 with a K5 million bail bond by a Malawi Supreme Court of Appeal decision after spending seven years in custody in South Africa.

He was arrested by International Police (Interpol) in South Africa’s town of Rustenburg in 2012 after spending two years as a fugitive following the alleged murder of Gasa.

Late Gasa’s body was found buried under Chanthunya’s family private cottage in Monkey Bay.
