Police arrest 2  Lilongwe District Council officials over missing K132m

Malawi Police have arrested two officials from Lilongwe district council on suspicion they embezzled K132 million meant for deceased estates and Other Recurrent Transactions (ORT).

Muhlabase Mughogho:  The two are suspected  swindling the council of K113 million for deceased estates and K19 million for the ORT

Ministry of Local government and Rural Development spokesperson Muhlabase Mughogho said Martin Msiska and Charles Chapalapata have been arrested for allegedly swindling the council of K113 million for deceased estates and K19 million for the ORT.

The police say the two are expected to appear in court once all the investigations are through.

This comes barely days after K400 million vanished in thin air at Dowa district council.

Council chairperson Martin Luka Phiri said he was very disturbed with reports of abuse of funds at the council.

Ombudsman Martha Chizuma says her office will soon be investigating allegations of abuse of funds in councils across the country.

  1. Okuba ndi mabwana awo osati anawa. Alekeni awa……ma council muli katangale kwambili. Ku Blantyre District Council nakoso anagawana ma plot mwachinyengo ku mpemba uku. ofunika tikadandaule. Ma plot analipo kaya 220 koma zowona boma kumatibela ma 5000 (non refundable application fee.) anthu opanga apply ma plot am told over 500….why??????We are raising this issue with ombudsman man basi. What criteria was used to allocate the plots??? Tizafuna council ituluse a list of applicants along side ma receipt numbers awo…….date of application and tizawone omwe apasidwa ma plots…………….This rot has to stop!!!!!

  5. Who approved the requisitions an cheques? Which positions are they holding? Didn’t we hear from George Chaponda that the fish rots from head to tail?

    But all this money what exactly do they do with it. Malawi is still having glass houses yet people are stealing millions from the Councils.

    1. I wish the death sentence must been in for all government employees who abuse the fo funds coz thy are coming this country poor
