Chimunthu Banda pops up at Mutharika function again

Former Speaker Henry Chimunthu Banda is now the centre of discussion in social media after he attended a government function in Mangochi presided over by President Peter Mutharika.

In their salutations, Mutharika, Labour minister Henry Mussa, Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) secretary general Grazeider Jeffrey wa Jeffrey recognised the presence of Chimunthu Banda.

Mutharika was on Saturday officially opening Mangochi Community College, the 12th since the DPP led government started constructing them soon after Mutharika was voted into power in 2014.

Chimunthu Banda, who once was the most powerful in DPP, was once secretary general of the party, went under political underground in 2013 after Mutharika floored him in party primary elections for the presidency.

He was the only candidate who challenged Mutharika during the party presidential polls and Mutharika far much beat his only rival in the election

Chimunthu Banda claimed the party election were rigged in favour of Mutharika, claims Mutharika denied.

The former speaker  did not vie for a parliament seat in his home area in Nkhotakota.
