Chinseu, Tandwe shines in Old Mutual Executive Golf Tournament 

Blantyre based golfers Godwin Chinseu and Maria Tandwe have enough reasons to smile after being crowned champions of the 2025 Old Mutual Executive Golf Tournament in the Mens and Ladies Categories respectively having produced a remarkable dominance performance during the competition which was played on Saturday at Blantyre Sports Club.

The invitation golf tournament which brought together a total of 80 golfers on the golf course, saw Chinseu emerging winner in the Mens Senior Category after outclassing his fellow golfers as he showcased a phenomenal display that saw him scoring  handicap 9 beating Khumbo Mkandawire and  Kaluso Chihana who finished on second and third position after recoding handicaps 9 and 11 respectively.
Tandwe who competed with other experienced female golfers in the Ladies Senior Category was triumph after scoring a record of handicap 20 while Faith Samati secured second place as Doreen Kavala finished third.
In the  Seniors’ Division, Boniface Chima won with handicap 20 followed by James Chimwaza while Justice Masauko Msungama came third.
The Ladies Longest Drive went to Ulemu Luhanga whereas the Ladies Nearest to the Pin failed to produce a winner.
The Nearest to the Pin Mens category saw Paul Araujo going home a happy man after becoming the winner while Chimwemwe Chimwaza took the Mens Longest Drive category.
Speaking during prize presentation, Chimseu expressed happy for taking home the trophy while describing it as a great achievement considering that he managed to win from a competitive competition which was comprised of most respected seasoned golfers.
He attributed his secret behind the victory as a result of good preparation, patience, as well as self-confidence and also singled out that winning trophy symbolizes a massive improvement on his performance.
“I must admit that apart from facing experienced golfers who made the competition tight, the course today was also very tough as the greens were watered making them to be soft and that needed one to apply skill and be patience enough as well as precise to hit the green which worked according to my plan,” said Chinseu.
Old Mutual Malawi, Group Chief Executive Officer, Tavona Biza described the tournament as a successful one as it has managed to meet its key objectives of giving back to their customers by creating a platform through golf competition where they engaged them to spend time and enjoy while interact with them as well as networking by sharing business ideas.
Biza added that the turnout of golfers was a special encouragement as it brought a lot of excitement through a competitive play from the course that also helped the tournament to live to its expectation.
“Golf is not just a sport, but a platform to relax. As a company we have a lot of customers and we really always want to take time for us to interact with them and also allow themselves to gather and interact. Through this tournament we have managed to build valuable relationships with them as our stakeholders, customers, and partners,” said Biza.

This year’s golf tournament was under the theme; ‘Swinging into the Mutual Future’.
Before the prize presentation, the golfers joined their fellow golf fraternity in observing a minute of silence in respect to one of the legendary golfer and former Old Mutual Group Chief Executive Officer, Chris Kapanga who died on Saturday morning at his home.
