Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) president Rose Chinunda has recinded on her decision not to seek another term, saying after taking a huge amount of thought she is going for re-election.
Nam is expected to hold polls in April, despite some officials trying hard to postpone the elections.
In October last year, Chinunda told the media that she will leave office to pave the way for someone with fresh ideas to revamp the sport.
However, Chinunda has said she has made a re-think on her decision.
“I announced that l will not seek re-election but l do not have an immediate answer on wether l would rescind my decision if netball lovers ask me to continue.I cannot answer that question now,”she said in quotes reported by The Nation newspaper.
If Chinunda will cling on to seek for another term, she will differ with what Sports minister Henry Mussa said that some officials who are running sports bodies have overstayed and need to be replaced with vibrant, fresh and creative minds to breath in a new lease of life.
The minister said one of the reasons the country is struggling in various sports disciplines is because some officials have outlived their usefulness.
“Some, if not most of the officials running these sports bodies, have overstayed and run out of ideas. They have become rusty that they cannot offer anything new and, therefore, not in tandem with the dynamics.
“There is need for some sort of overhaul so that we bring in fresh innovative leadership that can change the way we do things. It cannot be business as usual,” Mussa is on record saying.
