Chinyama, Cholopi make RVG grade in Malawi squad for  2017 Cosafa Cup

Malawi  national football team  Coach Ronny Van Geneugden  has named a squad of 22 players for the 2017 Cosafa Castle Cup competition which takes place in South Africa from Saturday.

Van Geneugden announced the squad to members of the press on Wednesday at Mpira Village in Chiwembe, Blantyre.

The Flames mentor  has mainly stuck with a bulk of  players that were in camp before the Comoros Islands game but has omitted  foreign based players, who have returned back to their clubs.

Young full backs  Dennis Chembezi  Boyd  and Ian Chinyama  have bounced back to the squad at the expense of Nyasa Big Bullets left back Yamikani Fodya who has been dropped.

Silver Strikers goalkeeper Bright Munthali  and Be Forward Wanderers pillar Lucky Malata also return to the team after missing the Comoros game.

Young midfielder Simeon Singa of Wizards FC  has also reclaimed his spot in the team with another Bullets right back Pilirani Zonda   falling off the list.

Be Forward Wanderers has contributed many players five in total followed by four from Silver Strikers, while Bullets and Wizards have contributed three players.

Red Lions, who are topping the log table in the Super League have contributed two players, while Blue Eagles and Moyale Barracks have a player each.

Azam Tigers have also contributed one player in Peter Cholopi.

In the tournament, the Flames are in group A alongside Tanzania, Angola and Mauritius. Their opening match is on25 June against Tanzania.

Players on merit. Local coaches could not see these players. Chinyama been around but mzuzngu noted something worthy of a national team player in this guy which i also did some 3 years ago when i watched him at Nankhaka.

Ian Chinyama? Wow! I guess tachnical panel is not helping RVG in choosing national team players! Not disrespecting Ian,but I guess,he is not ready for national football!

This is a very good lineup representing national selection. Not the previous selections of Kina Phiri, Ernest Mtawali etc which was very tribal . Imagine names like Kudamuwaya, Chikhosi etc.

This is the real Malawi National Football team chosen on merit not the Nyika Republic team of Kinnah Phiri that used to play in the past that left us wondering whether Malawi has no other footballers other than hinyas!!!

Abale Mzunguyu wayesetsa kutenga anyamata on merit. Tiyeni tipempherere timu yathuyi kuti ikachite bwino. Inu nonse amene mukupita ku COSAFA, ambuye akuyendetseni bwino. Chonde kakutumuleni mpira opanda mantha.
