This follows reports of misallocation of funds meant to uplift rural schools in Mzimba and other districts.

Speaking during training in Mzimba on Monday, Csec research, monitoring and evaluation officer Kisa Kumwenda said the massive plunder of education resources is a major cause for worry.

The ongoing lobby for greater funding for quality education will not bring the desired change without prudent use of all resources invested in the sector, he said.

“Budget tracking is one of our core objectives and we have achieved great results in collaboration with district education networks,” he said.

He commended Mzimba District Education Network (Mziden) for bringing to light suspected abuse of Constituency Development Fund (CDF) meant for improvement of rural schools.

Kumwenda said there was need to train the network to keep providing checks and balances.

Mziden chairperson Teckson Amadu said the training had further opened their eyes and instilled basic investigation skills.

He reckoned the district encounters numerous transparency and accountability pitfalls when it comes to ultilisation of public funds meant for quality education.
