Chitipa United four wins away from promotion glory

Northern Region Premier League underdogs Chitipa United FC are four wins away from incredible promotion to the Super League, following six maximum points picked up in their two away matches in Mzuzu over the weekend.

The border based rookies who only entered the Simama sponsored league this season moved further clear of their rivals after beating in-form Mzuzu United 2-0 and Zolozolo United 3-1.

The wins have moved Chitipa United to 75 points from 30 matches, 13 points clear of second placed Kapolo Stars who they face this weekend.

Speaking in an interview with Malawi News Agency Wednesday, the club’s tactician Robert Mzinza said his boys deserved promotion for their hard work and performance they have put in throughout the season.

“I can say that we have already won this division and a place in the elite league in the country but we are one step away from our set out objective,” he said.

Mzinza attributed the fantastic season for his team to the wonderful team work that exists at the club and the will to win football matches.

“I have a very young but talented squad whose objective, like mine, is to go out on the pitch and win matches and play entertaining football for the watching fans, hence our rise to the summit of this division,” he boasted.

The Chitipa United coach warned other clubs that the best is yet to come and that his team’s run of success was just the beginning from his charges.

Meanwhile, Abel Mwakilama, the clubs talisman striker, has been rewarded for his fine form this season by being called up to Malawi Under-20 National Team squad who are preparing for COSAFA under 20 tournament set to take place later this month in South Africa.

The striker has scored 35 goals to lead his club on the blink of promotion in only 30 matches.
