Chitipa Utd coach rues long distance contributing to poor performance
The happiness and jubilation that filled the hearts of Chitipa United players and the rest of Chitipa residence after their team earned promotion into the elite TNM Super League has promptly been replaced by sympathy.
The team keeps on being whipping boys and yet to taste a win as it has only managed a single draw and five losses out of the six games they have so far played and there is no indication of when a win will materialize or against which top flight team.
However, team Head Coach Kondwani Mwalweni believes his team could have done better if they were to use Karonga Stadium as its home ground as planned unlike Mzuzu Stadium which is far from their base.
“The distance we are covering from Chitipa to Mzuzu is too long and is greatly affecting us and it is like we are playing all our games away, suppose we were using Karonga Stadium as our home ground, we could have produced better results”, explained Mwalweni.
But Mwalweni said they are working round the clock to come up with a winning formula.
“The league has just begun but we are working tirelessly to organize ourselves. We have suffered so many defeats and we hope atleast this weekend, we will register a positive result,” he said.
They will face Airtel Top 8 reigning Champions Silver Strikers this weekend.
However, Silver coach Lovemore Fazili is not underrating their opponents.
“It is our wish to go there and collect maximum points but it will be tough. We are abit worried with Chitipa because we don’t know how they play but with Moyale, we are not very much worried because we already know them” said Fazili.
“The good thing is that the players already know what to do” he added.
Despite launching the campaign on a high note drawing with giants and former champions Nyasa Big Bullets, Chitipa United still anchors the 16 member TNM Super League Table with a single point from six games while the Bankers are on position 10 with five points from three games.
Zomba based soldiers who are resting this weekend top the table with 12 points from five games followed by Premier Bet Wizard with 11 points from six games while Nyasa Big Bullets come third with 10 oints from five games.
