Chiumia hails increased allocation to Sports Ministry in Malawi 2015/16 Budget

Youth Development and Sports Minister Grace Obama Chiumia has hailed the Malawi government for increasing funding towards her ministry in the 2015-16 national budget.

Chiumia: Enough resources
Chiumia:  Well funded

The Malawi government has allocated K5.9 Billion to the Ministry and this was revealed on Friday 22nd May, 2015 the Finance Minister Goodall Gondwe presented the budget at the national assembly.

Reacting to the budget particularly on the funds allocated to the sports ministry, honourable Chiumia expressed excitement and thanked the government for the gesture.

“I am excited because our ministry has been one of the ministries underfunded,” said Chiumia.

The Minister revealed that allocation is centered on infrastructure development.

Surprisingly, the oldest giant Stadium Kamuzu is not included on the infrastructure to be rehabilitated.

According to the Minister, K5 billion will be used to complete the Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe and the rest will be channeled to the restructuring of Mzuzu Youth Centre.

She said soon, her Ministry is separately working on how to realize funds for the rehabilitation of Kamuzu Stadium.

“For Kamuzu Stadium, we are trying to work on that separately and we are still reasing with other partners but very soon we are going to come up with figures,” Chiumia said.
