Chiunda appointed Maneb new boss
Malawi National Examinations Board (MANEB) has appointed Gerald Axel Chiunda as Executive Director of the institution , it has been announced.

A statement issued by Maneb’s spokesperson Simeon Maganga to a MediaHub WhatsApp group for Malawi journalists , says the appointment is with effect on 18th August, 2017.
Chiunda, who was served as the spokesperson for Maneb, has a combined work experience of 19 years in examinations and assessment.
His appointment, according to statement issued by the Board of Directors and dated September 1 2017, follows his being successul in the interviews for the post which were held on August 10.
He joined the institution in 1998 and rose through the ranks to the position of Director of Research and Test Develoment in 2009.
Chiunda was later seconded by the government to the United Nations where he served as a Technical Manager for an assessment programme covering 15 countries in East and Southern Africa.
Maneb, among others, conduct valid and reliable examinations for certification, selection and placement purposes and provide professional advice relating to assessment and examinations.
Academic and other examinations are conducted at the conclusion of any approved course in the country as it may be considered in the public interest. Certificates are awarded to successful candidates in such examinations.
National examinations include the Malawi Schools Certificate of Education (MSCE), Primary School Leaving of Certificate of Education and Primary Teacher Certificate of Education (PTCE), among others.

Malawi has no standards and if it has, then they are deliberately bent to befit a few animals. How come Chiunda had to through the interview to become the Chief Executive Officer for MANEB while other animals are merely anointed to such senior positions within the system? We have seen this happening even in the public universities. Malata got the job as Vice Chancellor for MUST on a silver platter, but a similar position was advertised at Mzuzu University. If you are ignorant it is better to keep quite. MUST advertised for the position of Vice Chancellor and Deputy Vice Chancellor. Interviews were conducted and Malata became the favorite choice of the interviewing panel. The President as chancellor only endorsed the results of the interview and picked the person who came tops.
