In form Lilongwe based netball giants Civonets have send a warning message to Blantyre netball leaders Kukoma Diamonds to stop dreaming of winning this year’s GOtv netball Champions League whose finals are slated for Saturday, September 30 2017 at Don Bosco netball court in Lilongwe.

Civonets for GOtv championship

Kukoma Diamonds have managed to win the cup once while Civonets have never won it.

But Civonets proved to be a good side capable to do wonders in the cup when the team made a surprise improvement during the second round of the competition which was played in Mzuzu two weeks ago where they won two games and lost one.

Kukoma Diamonds is leading the GOtv netball champions league with 11 points from 7 matches while Civonets is coming on positiin 2 with 10 points from the same number of games.

The two teams are expected to meet in the finals what is considered to be a do or die encounter.

In the first round Civonets managed to beat Tigresses, Mimosa Queens, Mafco Soldiers but they only lost to Blue Eagles Sister. In second round matches Civonets beat Kukoma Diamonds, Lameck Sisters and lost to Thunder Queens.

In the other hand Kukoma Diamonds won all the four games played in the first round while during the second round the team won one game against Mimosa and made a draw with Mafco and lost one against Civonets.

Civonets captain Jane ‘Ayaya’ Chimaliro said they are geared and ready to win the cup for the first time.

“Kukoma Diamonds is a good side and we always give the team respect but we don’t fear them. We feel this is our year to break the record. If we managed to beat them twice in 2015 and once this year nothing can can stop us to do the same because we are playing at our own
backyard where we’ll have enough morale from our Lilongwe fans,” said Chimaliro.

But Kukoma Diamonds captain Caroline ‘Ayuda’ Ntukule Ngwira said they will not make any comment on how they are preparing but them team is in good shape.

“Let them talk the way they want but our action or response will come to them on the court. They beat us yes, but let them know that ‘mpheche-peche mwa njovu samapitamo kawiri’ said Ntukule Ngwira.

Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) General Secretary said preparations for the finals have been finalised and people should expect to watch a beatiful ceremony come Saturday.

“As  NAM I can say we are done with everything what we are waiting for now is the big day to see how teams will perform on the day,” said Bapu.

During the finals Mimosa and Lameck Queens will play in the opening match while Thunders Queens and Tigresses will fight for fourth position.

Blue Eagles will meet Mafco Soldiers to fight for position 3.

The finals of the GOtv netball champions league  is expected to start with a trophy parade which will take in different townships within Lilongwe.
