Registration of participating teams started on Wednesday and is expected to finish on Friday before the final selection of the teams at Blantyre Youth Centre on Saturday.

According to a statement, teams have to register for the 5-aside soccer and flaye games to take place at the forthcoming Kuphaka Life fanfare slated for Blantyre Sports Club on September 24.

Kuphaka Life is a feel good event funded by Coca-Cola and it started last year. The producers of the events have promised that the second season is back bigger and better.

Different from last year’s edition, which stormed colleges; the 2016 series targets the major cities of Blantyre, Mzuzu and Lilongwe.

In the northern and central regions, the events will take place on 8th and 29th October in Mzuzu and Lilongwe, respectively. Venues will be communicated in due course.

Gearing up for the first fanfare at Blantyre Sports Club, the activations teams have been going around Blantyre registering would-be participants from Sanjika, Ndirande and Soche Zones.

Sanjika Zone includes Chilomoni, Kabula, Sunnyside, Manase and the surrounding areas. Ndirande Zone has Nyambadwe, Chirimba, Chichiri and Ndirande, while Soche Zone will see teams from Chitawira, Naperi, Soche East, Zingwangwa, Kanjedza and other surrounding Townships.

“The activations teams are only registering interested teams to participate in the 5-aside games and we are looking at having 16 teams.

“After registration from Wednesday to Friday, we will have an elimination process at Blantyre Youth Centre on Saturday, and this is where these teams will be narrowed down to 16,” explains TalumbaChirwa, the Kuphaka Life project coordinator. “There will be no registration on the day.”

This year’s activities for the main events are in four categories, sports which will involve the 5-aside soccer games, flaye, mila and other games that will be added during the days of the events.

There will also be activations that will include interactions with the audience through drinking and eating competitions.

The third category is the fashion challenge.Chirwa further explains that the fashion challenge is not a fashion show. “People just have to wear something creative, a combination of red and white colours. It can be formal or crazy but it has to be interesting.”

Finally, the fans will be treated to a music concert featuring the country’s top urban musicians. So far, Home Grown African and Bucci are the confirmed acts. A lot more artists will be confirmed and this will take the people out there to suggest which artists they would want to see at these events in Blantyre, Mzuzu and Lilongwe.

“Apart from these we are going to have raffle draws involving the audiences at these events. Their entry tickets will automatically go into the raffles and three people in each region stand a chance to win a one-year round supply of Coca-Cola just like the winning team,” states Chirwa.

Meanwhile, the Kuphaka Life theme song, The Life, which features Home Grown African, produced by Sonye, will be released on radio and online (for downloads) this Friday, 16 September 2016. The song was premiered by Joy Nathu on his popular Made on Monday show.
