Community Savings and Investment Promotion (Comsip) this week conducted a three-day products promotion training for farmers in Mponela, Dowa.
Speaking during closing of the training on Wednesday, Comsip social protection officer Harold Dunga said the training has empowered farmers with knowledge and skills in how to market their produce and products using Comsip structure.
“In the structure of Comsip, there are several committees and one of them is a marketing committee, which was our target for the training. Through this model, we empower farmers with skills in business management, financial literacy and how best they can sell their products through collective bargaining and marketing,” he said
Dunga said most of the farm produce is sold on local markets at give away prices because farmers lack marketing skills, including adding value to their products.
“There is hope that farmers will produce high quality products that will be on the international market because of the skills they have acquired,” he said.
Speaking in an interview at the end of the training participant Gideon Mpofu from Mangasanja Comsip Cluster said he is happy with the marketing skills that he has acquired.
“We have learnt how to raise capital investment for our agriculture production and related businesses,” he said.
