Cop killed, two others injured by a speeding vehicle

A speeding vehicle allerged to have been driven by an intoxicated driver on Tuesday 17th July 2017 killed one Police Officer and injured two others at Dowa Turn-Off Road Block.

Kaponda: Driver was over speeding 

Dowa Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) Richard Kaponda confirmed the sad development to Nyasa Times.

According to Kaponda, the driver identified as Clement Wyton was driving a Mecedes Benz with Registration Number BU 4897 and was
driving from the direction of Mponela going towards Lumbadzi along the M1 Road.

“He was driving from the direction of Mponela going towards Lumbadzi and upon arriving at Dowa Turn Off Police Road Block, he failed to
control the motor vehicle due to overspeeding and drunkness and ended up hitting the three Police Officers,” said Kaponda.

He has since identified the deceased Police Officer as Sergeant Brown Selemani who died as he was transfered from Mtengowanthenga Clinic to Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) in Lilongwe.

The injured officers are Inspector Lawrence Mthethwa who has sustained minor injuries and Constable Trace Longwe who sustained fructures in both legs.

The deceased Police Officer hails from Kacheta Village in the Area of Traditional Authority (T/A) Santhe in Kasungu District while the
driver Wyton also hails from the same Area and district.

The driver is currently is police custody at Dowa Police Station and will appear in court soon according to Kaponde.
