Cosafa women’s football tournament to have record participants

This year’s Cosafa women’s football tournament scheduled for 5-11 September in Bulawayo in Zimbabwe will have a record number of participating countries of 12 including Malawi.

Malawi women football team to participate in Cosafa

Cosafa women’s football tournament organisers said the return of the competition since 2011 would see hosts Zimbabwe, Botswana, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia and guests Kenya.

This is in sharp contrast to previous competitions which drew eight teams.

Meanwhile the draw for the competition will be held next week ahead of the kick off.

Malawi national women football team, which has been one of the regular feature of the competition will be hoping to improve from their previous performance.

Malawi national women football team will be headed by Stuart Mbolembole with former Nyasa Big Bullets star striker Andrew Chikhosi as his assistant and women’s football legend Maggie Chombo Sadik in the technical team mix.

Malawi lost to Tanzania early this year in a friendly international match in Lilongwe as one of keeping the players in shape.
