Court to pass sentence on Tuesday for Area 24 trio convicted for insulting modesty of a woman
The Magistrates Court in Lilongwe has convicted three women from Lilongwe’s Area 24 on charges of assault causing bodily harm and insulting the modesty of a woman.

Flora Chinguwo, Norah Chatsika and Gertrude Banda, were arrested after a video clip went viral on social media where they were captured assaulting a woman identified as Bridget Kumchulesi.
They were answering charges of committing an act intended to cause grievous harm and insulting the modesty of a woman.
Senior Resident Magistrate Paul Chiotcha convicted the three after they changed the initial plea of “not guilty” to that of “guilty.”
Their lawyer Paul Taulo prayed for leniency in sentencing, saying the convicts admitted the charge in police “and pleaded guilty on time.”
He added: “They are also young mothers and children.”
Taulso asked for non-custodial sentence.
However, Cecilia Zangazanga, prosecuting, said when coming with sentence, the public interest “must be considered” as the three “planned the offence well when they called the woman and beat her up.”
I would go for one year suspended, given that the intention of attacking the whole was to protect a marriage
