Dickson Khofi aged 39, from Khokwasambo Village in Traditional Authority (TA) Mazengera in Lilongwe was on Tuesday night shot dead by unknown criminals as he tried to aid his neighbour from thieves who had attacked the neighbour’s house at Landani village, TA Tsabango in Lilongwe.
Lilongwe Police Station Public Relations Officer (PRO) Inspector Kingsley Dandaula said the deceased was at around 11.00 in the night responding to a whistle sound he heard that was coming from the house of his neighbour identified as Prince Kumbuyo Nkhoma, an IT manager at Get Bucks in Lilongwe.
“Khofi was on his way to find out what was happening after hearing the sound of the whistle that had been blown. Unfortunately, he was shot on the chest by the unknown criminals who had already broken into Nkhoma’s house and he died on the spot,” said Dandaula.
The spokesperson disclosed that the criminals had stolen an Hp lap-top, 4 cell phones and K58, 000 cash.
Dandaula said the matter was reported to Kawale Police by the wife to the deceased Esnart Mlauzi Khofi aged 25, from Njobvu Village in the same area which led the Police to immediately visit the scene.
“Upon visiting the scene, the Kawale Police found the pellets on the scene of the incident and it seems the criminals had used a shotgun,” said Dandaula.
Postmortem conducted at Kamuzu Central Hospital revealed that death was due to hypovolemia (blood loss) caused by the gunshot wounds and meanwhile investigations are underway to arrest the culprits and to recover the stolen items.
